In 1845, at a time when majority of winemakers were buying the grapes rather than cultivating their own, Louis Roederer took a visionary approach. Wanting to master every aspect of the wine’s creation, he acquired several Grand Cru vineyards in Verzenay. Since then, every Louis Roederer vintage originates exclusively from their own vines. Its tete-de-cuvee, Louis Roederer Cristal, is among the finest Champagnes in the world.

The estate, which originally comprised 100 hectares acquired in 1850, now extends over 240 hectares, carefully chosen from the best terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, the Cote des Blancs, and the Vallee de la Marne. The estate cultivates 3 traditional grape varieties: Chardonnay for its minerality, finesse, and elegance; Pinot Noir’s solid constitution which adds structure to the blends and prepares the wine for aging; and Pinot Meunier whose adaptability brings harmony and softness to certain cuvees.

The Louis Roederer House has remained an independent, family-owned company and is now managed by Frederic Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage.

The NV Louis Roederer Brut Collection 244 [Champagne Blend] 375 from the Vallee de la Marne region in Champagne, France, is a non-vintage sparkling wine crafted from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. The wine has an alcohol content of 12.5% and is sealed with a traditional cork closure.

The blend proportions for this specific release are 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, and 26% Meunier. Notably, 54% of the wine comes from the 2019 vintage, with 36% perpetual reserve wines from vintages 2012-2018, and 10% reserve wines aged in oak.

According to Wine Spectator, this Champagne is "elegant, with bright acidity buoying a well-integrated range of ripe pear and white cherry, almond skin, fleur de sel and apple blossom notes" and offers a "fine and seamless" experience with a "lingering, spiced finish." It received a score of 93 and is recommended to drink now through 2028.

The Wine Independent's Sarah Mayo highlights its "faint reductive notes that blow off to reveal white peach, lemon curd, raw almonds, verbena blossom and nougat aromas." Mayo praises its medium-bodied, round texture and notes the "beautiful kiss of honey on the finish," awarding it a score of 92.

Decanter's review emphasizes the "powerful, ripe side of 2019," with flavors of "white peach and mandarin" and a "toasty, savoury citrus oil snap." It remains "youthful and fragrant with juicy pear, blossom and almond notes." Decanter also scores it 93 and suggests it will show even better with additional aging.

Jeb Dunnuck's Audrey Frick describes it as "expressive on opening" with "pure notes of red berries, cherry, fresh peach" and a "delicate salinity." She notes its "fine and refined mousse" and "medium-bodied and elegant" nature, scoring it another 93.

Antonio Galloni of Vinous finds the NV Collection 244 "gorgeous," with a "lovely cut" and vibrant, crystalline quality. He highlights the saline notes that "extend the finish effortlessly," scoring it 93.

William Kelley from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate describes it as "the finest release" of Roederer's non-vintage Brut to date, with "aromas of pear, peach and nectarine mingled with notions of white flowers, beeswax, freshly baked bread and buttery pastry." He awards it 93+ points, noting its "layered and fleshy" texture and "long, chalky finish."

Overall, the NV Louis Roederer Brut Collection 244 [Champagne Blend] 375 is widely praised across reviews for its elegant structure, vibrant fruit notes, and fine mousse, making it an excellent choice for both immediate enjoyment and extended aging.
