Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2020

Fuligni gives us a truly special expression from this sunny and warm vintage. What I notice first in the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is the elegance of the aromas and those dusty, almost salty mineral notes of...

Decanter, March 2021

Fuligni’s Riserva embodies the spirit of its designation. Despite long ageing in large oak casks, it demands more time in bottle and should age gracefully for many years. It comes from the estate’s original Podere...

Fuligni is a family-owned estate on the eastern side of Montalcino. The vines, which extend over ten hectares, are primarily located at Cottimelli with altitudes varying from 1,250 to 1,500 feet. Average age of the vines is about twelve years with some dating back more than thirty years. The estate’s four vineyards are planted with Sangiovese, complemented by a small portion of Merlot.

The Fuligni range consists of the regular Brunello, a Brunello Riserva, a Rosso (Ginestreto), and an IGT Toscana made from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot.

The 2015 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, crafted from Sangiovese Grosso, is a standout wine from Tuscany's renowned Brunello di Montalcino region. This red wine, produced by Fuligni, has garnered impressive reviews, highlighting its exceptional quality and potential for aging.

James Suckling awarded this wine a perfect score of 100, describing it as having "a crazy nose of white truffles, wild berries, cherry blossoms, porcini mushrooms, earth, white pepper, sage, blueberries, cocoa and seashells." He further praised its full-bodied nature, elegance, and subtle power, noting the "very fine, seamless tannins" and suggesting to "try after a year or two" (jamessuckling.com, 6/22/2022).

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate also gave high marks, scoring it 98. The reviewer lauded the wine's "elegance of the aromas and those dusty, almost salty mineral notes of crushed limestone." Further, the review highlighted its layered bouquet, featuring "balsam herb, dried mint and powdered licorice root." It was described as excelling in "balanced concentration, structure and freshness," and was termed "a unique creation and a very precious wine" (Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 12/1/2020).

The review appreciated its "classy and complex" nature, with "accents of tobacco and spice" on the finish, recommending it best from 2024 through 2045 (Wine Spectator, 4/14/2021).

Decanter, giving it a 97, emphasized the wine's potential for long aging, noting that despite extended time in large oak casks, it "demands more time in bottle" and "should age gracefully for many years." Descriptors included "earthy chestnut and wet soil" with hints of "liquorice, lilac and allspice," complemented by "velvety tannins" and a "lovely perfume" (Decanter, 3/24/2021).

Finally, Wine Enthusiast also rated it 96, highlighting aromas of "ripe black-skinned fruit, menthol and star anise." The palate was noted for delivering "raspberry, licorice and vanilla" with a coffee finish. The wine was praised for its "firm, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity," suggesting a drinking window from 2025–2030 (Wine Enthusiast, 3/1/2021).

Overall, the 2015 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a highly acclaimed wine, praised for its complexity, balance, and aging potential.
